Coronavirus in India: 3 more test positive in Noida, confirmed Covid-19 cases above 650


As authorities prepare to fight the coronavirus pandemic, the number of coronavirus cases climbed to 649 in India on Thursday and the death toll rose to 16.Over 20 new Covid-19 cases from different parts of the country were reported on Thursday morning along with three casualties. Follow Live Updates on coronavirus outbreak According to the Health ministry data, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the country stood at 593, while 42 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated. The total number of 649 cases included 47 foreign nationals, the ministry said.
In Goa, three persons, all with travel history abroad, tested positive for coronavirus, health department officials said. This is the first time the tourist state has reported coronavirus positive cases.
With five more people testing positive for coronavirus in Indore, the total number of cases in the city have risen to 10, taking the Madhya Pradesh tally to 15 on Thursday.
In West Bengal, an elderly tested positive for the coronavirus making him the 10th case of the deadly viral disease in the state. The 66-year-old from Nayabad in Kolkata had no history of travelling abroad or outside West Bengal.
Cases in Delhi rose to 36 on Thursday after a doctor, his daughter and wife and one other person tested positive. The doctor had come into contact with a woman who had returned from Saudi Arabia.
As per data by the Health Ministry, updated on Thursday morning, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases so far at 128, including three foreign nationals, followed by Kerala which has recorded 118 cases, including eight foreign nationals.
Karnataka has reported 41 cases of coronavirus patients, while cases in Gujarat rose to 38, including one foreigner.
Cases in Uttar Pradesh rose to 40, including a foreigner. Three more persons test positive for coronavirus in Noida, taking the cases in Gautam Buddh Nagar district to 14.
The number of cases in Rajasthan increased to 38, including two foreigners, while the positive cases in Telangana stood at 42, including 10 foreigners.
Punjab reported 33 cases while In Haryana, there are 30 cases, including 14 foreigners. Ladakh has 13 cases, while Tamil Nadu has reported 26 cases, including six foreigners. Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have reported 11 cases each.
Chandigarh has reported seven cases.
Uttarakhand has five cases, including one foreigner. Bihar has four cases.
There are three cases in Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh while there are two cases in Odisha. Puducherry, Mizoram and Manipur have reported a case each.
On Wednesday, India registered 101 new cases of novel coronavirus despite a nationwide lockdown.
DEATH TOLL CLIMBS TO 16
The death toll due to novel coronavirus in India also climbed to 16 on Thursday.
A 65-year-old man hailing from Hyderpora area of Srinagar died on Thursday, becoming the first fatality in Jammu and Kashmir due to coronavirus. Four people had tested positive for coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases to 11.
Maharashtra saw its fourth coronavirus-related casualty on Thursday after test report of a woman who died on March 24 confirmed that she coronavirus positive. Earlier, an 85-year-old woman had died in Ahmedabad, becoming the second person to die of Covid-19 in Gujarat.
The earlier deaths were reported from Maharashtra, Bihar, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

India spent day 1 of the 21 days lockdown scrambling for groceries, vegetables and milk even as the government issued several assurances that essential services and commodities will not be hampered by the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of deadly novel coronavirus.
While the streets across India bore a deserted look, cops across states ended up booking umpteen number of people for violating norms of lockdown. People were booked for venturing out for no emergency, opening businesses and home quarantine violations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed his constituents in Varanasi via video conferencing. During the address, PM Modi urged people not to discriminate against frontline workers, including healthcare workers and cops.
PM Modi's statement came as several doctors and policemen reported evictions by landlords after being accused of being coronavirus carriers. The PM said that doctors must be treated like Gods during the current situation as they are helping us fight novel coronavirus pandemic.
